Employee Assistance Programs
Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) offer
employees an opportunity to work with professionals to resolve
personal and work related problems in a therapeutic environment.
Most people experience problems of some sort at one time or
another in their lives, and are able to manage those problems
with the aid of friends and family members. Sometimes, however,
people need to seek professional assistance in dealing with
their problems, and this is when an EAP is helpful.
Employee Assistance Programs offer both the
employer and the employee a host of benefits and services. The
following will briefly describe those services.
For the employee:
The EAP provides assistance to
employees for a wide variety of problems, including, but not limited
to marital, financial, alcohol, drugs, family, vocational, work
related stress, legal, weight management, physical, elder/child
care. Through utilizing EAP services, the employee may take advantage
of such services as:
Short term crisis intervention: Assessment,
short term counseling and referral to mental health providers
for the management of a specific, acute problem or situation
Referral to financial or legal resources
for assistance with budget and/or debt management,
applications for public assistance and legal consultations for
issues such as divorce or elder care, for example
Behavioral Medicine and Pain Management
Smoking cessation programs
In most cases, any regular employee and their
family members may take advantage of EAP services. The program
structure is determined jointly by the Institute and the company
and costs are covered by the employer. Usually, costs associated
with referrals may be covered by the employee’s medical
benefits.

For the employer:
The employer benefits from providing services
to his/her employees by helping to create a healthy, reduced
stress, conflict free environment. Employees will know that
their employer cares for them. Productivity levels will
increase, as will employees’ effectiveness and morale. This
will all, in turn, promote greater profitability for the
company.
